Scuba Diving - Pictures

Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, December 2004 / January 2005

From 28 December 2004 to 4 January 2005 we went to Sharm El Sheikh (Egypt, Sinai peninsula) for diving. We did 10 dives on the famous reefs of the Sharm area, including several dive sites on the Ras Mohammed National Park. Here are some pictures...

Red Sea Anemone Fish
The famous fish of the "Finding Nemo" animation. If you come close to them, they hide in their anemone. When you get away, they sometimes follow you for a while.

Blue Spine Unicornfish
A lucky shot. The fish is beautifully framed by all kinds of soft corals.

Arabian Damsels
These species are found in small groups on branching corals. When you see them from a distance, about 10 of them swim just above the coral. When you get closer, they hide between the branches.

Red Sea Fairy Basslets and Red Sea Fusiliers
On nearly every block of corals you will find these small orange coloured fish. They live in harems. In the middle you see a brown coloured fish of the same size, this is the male. All others are female. When the mail dies, the biggest female fish will transform into a male. The blue fusiliers are also commonly seen in the Red Sea. You will find them just below the surface.

Hickson's Fan Coral
These giant gorgonians have a diameter up to 2 meters.

Bluespotted Stingray
We saw several of them, most of the times hiding under a big coral or rock.
